Oral HNT

Early Wednesday afternoon, I got the first part of my oral surgery done. I was really relaxed on the car ride there. I was cool in the waiting room, enjoying the soft, plush chair and the music coming out of my iPod. I was cool when the doctor came to the waiting room and called me up. I was calm right up until I was sitting in the room about to begin. Then, I was nervous as hell, lol.

First, they had to get another couple of x-rays so they could see certain parts more clearly. My visit last week, they did full x-rays but some things didn't come out as clearly so they did three more. The hygienist/dental assistant was the same as the last time. She's really nice and helped me relax some more by talking with me about tattoos and funky jewelry.

After the doctor looked over the new x-rays, they got started by numbing my mouth and then shooting me up with stuff to numb my jaw. Then they shot me up with some stronger stuff in my gums to numb all that stuff. Then they got started and I was a little nervous again. He stopped a few times during the procedure to give my mouth a break from being open for so long and to inject more anesthetic to help numb parts even more so I didn't feel any pain.

The procedure took a little over an hour but I have a kickass doctor who kept me nicely doped up and I didn't feel hardly any pain at all. Mostly just a lot (A LOT) of pressure but that wasn't even that bad. I actually like the doctor and for me, that's good. Despite my aspirations to work in the medical field, I generally can't stand most doctors. This guy is good though. By the time I was hazily thinking I was probably only half done, he was moving away to grab some things so he could clean my mouth and get the inside of my mouth stitched up. Him doing the stitches on me was probably the most awkward feeling of them all. It just felt very... weird, lol.

I had some gauze stuck in my mouth for the longest time absorbing the blood. I think we changed that gauze in my mouth 6 times before it was no longer bleeding. I also got a cold compress to hold against my jaw to help with the pain immediately after the procedure.

I go back in one week so he can check out his handy work and remove the damn stitches. Oh and to set up the next appointment for the next procedure I get to have done. Joy joy.

I got some high strength Ibuprofen for the pain but I'm not hurting too much. Not yet anyway, lol. He said the thing that will hurt most will likely be my jaw so bleh but oh well. Though it's almost 8 hours later and I'm still only a little sore in the jaw so I'm not sure how much pain I'm going to face. If it doesn't get any worse, I won't be complaining. At all. I'm relieved that I wasn't in the amount of pain I was expecting. He was actually surprised that I took everything so well and didn't beg to be knocked out or something. The only thing, aside from my jaw being very slightly sore, is it hurts to open my mouth very wide and if I laugh too much, it pulls at that stitches. That's more annoying than painful though. Stupid stitches! Eating is a pain in the ass too. I'm not normally a painfully slow eater but I have to take forever to chew. Soft foods only. Chewing only on the right side of my mouth. It's tiring to eat, lol.

All in all.... I'm actually really happy with how things went Wednesday and I'm not totally dreading the next procedure now. :)

Though, I'm not really in the mood for taking anything sassy for HNT today so you get these. Enjoy, lol.

Happy Thursday!!!

Awwww what did you get done?

I've been getting a lot of work done and it's gotten to the point that I find it relaxing, going to the dentist LOL It helps if you like the doctor and they are nice, the atmosphere is relaxed... Still, never fun to be played around in the mouth, uh?

That sounds like quite the procedure ya went through. :( I hope those Ibuprofen hold up & that it doesnt get any more painful or anything bad like that.

Ugh. It seems awfully uncomfortable so I hope it's not as bad as it sounds.

LOL about us not getting *sassy* from you this time ;) You look adorable & pretty. Even after having gone thru all that you just did.

And the click thru? Babe, you have such gorgeous lips. I know I've probably said that a 100 times to you before but its so damn true ; ) Sexy. Yah, you just are.

Happy "I hope you feel better real soon" HNT to you ; )

Awww. :(

No fun at all.

Except for the fact that your lips are to die for, you look like it's been a long day! Sounds like root canal or wisdom teeth... Be sure to hang on to the good drugs if you don't use them all this time around!

Oral surgery is never fun. Sounds like the anaesthetic did it's job, though!

When you get a good dentist you find after a while that you can just trust them, and you don't worry about going along any more.

Hope you heal up fast, but enjoy the enforced rest :-)

they didn't give you the stitches that dissolve in your mouth? That sucks. I prefer those. Cause I won't go back to get them taken out unless you're knockin me out again:)

well I bet yor fun meter is peggin out!

Well I hope they can getcha fixed up!

Sweetie you really are much braver than I.

I'm a chicken shit at the thought of unknown pain. And I have a low pain tolerance.

I don't know if he told you this but if just ibuprofen doesn't cut the pain enough, adding tylenol with it, half hour apart from each other, helps immensely.

aww... you look so miserable....

Happy HNT!

feel better!

Jormengrund said...

It might be uncomfortable now, but just think about when it's all said and done.. NO MORE PAIN.

It's heaven, and it's possible!

A couple more weeks, and you'll have TONS of stuff to post about, I can guarantee it!

And I have to admit, the picture says a thousand words more than your blog in this one.

Pain, but redemption. Gotta love the soulful ones, you know?

Best wishes!

Okay, did anybody else's pulse jump up to about a buck fifty when they read the title? (No?? Okay, I guess it was just me then.)

Sorry to hear you're under the weather, but don't apologize for your post! Even a cold pack couldn't make you un-sexy.

Hope you feel better real soon!

Nope, never fun indeed but I do like my doctor so that helps considerably. I disliked my previous doctor and that made going to him worse because I absolutely dreaded going there.

Thanks! Today is a bit worse but I'm doing okay. :)
I dunno how bad it sounds but meh, it could be worse I'm sure so I'm happy it's not, lol.
It's okay if ya have said it 100 times (which is probably accurate, lol) Thank you darlin!

ms. i:
You're telling me, lol. :)

Ha thank you! Long day covers it. :) Oh I always hang on to what I don't use.Never know when you may need it. Lol.

An Artist Exposed:
I try, lol. Thank you!

Curvaceous Dee:
Nope. I think it did. I was worried about the anesthetic because I've never had so much given to me before but it was all good.

Hopefully that's the way it goes with the one I'm with now then.
Thank you! :)

I was hoping for those kind of stitches but nope, not so lucky. I've had stitches taken out before. I've had staples taken out before too. I'll take a few stitches over some staples any day. ;)

Southern Sage:
HA! :)
Thank you!

You think? I felt like a chicken, lol.
I have a high-ish tolerance to pain. My mind is my worst enemy though, I think too much and get way too anxious over things. Maybe that helps though because I always expect certain things to hurt worse and end up surprised and happy when they don't. *shrug*
Heh yeah, he told me to use Tylenol or Advil with it if I needed to. Luckily, it doesn't hurt so bad that I've needed more than the Ibu so far. :)

Hehe. :)
Thank you!

Exactly! I figure I'm going to be in some real pain for a while but once it's all over, I won't be any longer and hell yes. :) That's what I keep reminding myself when I feel dread about getting something done, lol.
Sometimes, pictures say much more than words can.
Thank you!

Ha, I wish. Except I work the majority of my hours over the weekend so no can do there. :)

Lapis Ruber:
Thank you! ;)

I'm sure you weren't alone there. I realized afterwards that it might give the wrong impression but oh well, lol.
Aww well thank you! Lol.
Me too! Heh. Thanks!

Aww so sweet. Thank you.

Yep! Lol. :)

Aw hon, you look so sad. If it makes you feel better, I'm really sick and not feeling so great right now either. Hopefully you won't be in too much pain. Dental procedures are not fun at all.

Oh boy do I know *that* feeling! Trying to sleep while using ice packs is tough -- on the one hand they're uncomfortably chilly when they work, and then you wake up warm but sore and have to get another one.

My deepest sympathies, AR.

Happy (belated) HNT.

TUG said...

How did you do a couple days later? I've had some very painful oral surgeries so I'm glad to hear yours turned out ok. Mine were so bad I was always on percocet afterwards.

And dammit...didn't realize about the click thru. Now I gotta go back. Some day I'm gonna learn how to do that!
